Tree Removal by Arbor & Stone
Sometimes a tree has to come down. It may be dead or diseased, damaged in a storm, lifting a wall or a patio, or simply far too big for the garden it was planted in. Arbor & Stone removes trees across Hampton, Twickenham and the surrounding TW postcodes, safely and with as little disruption to your property as possible.
Every job starts with a free visit. We look at the tree, the access and everything around it, check whether the tree is protected, and give you a clear written quote with no hidden extras.

Straight felling or sectional dismantling
Where there is enough open space, a tree can be felled in one piece, guided down with a pull line onto protected ground. In most gardens around Hampton and Twickenham that is not possible, so our climbers dismantle the tree from the top down, cutting it into manageable sections.
Larger pieces are lowered on ropes and rigging so they never drop onto sheds, fences, greenhouses or conservatories. Lawns and borders are covered with boards and tarpaulins before we start.
What is included
- A free site visit and written quote
- Checks for Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas before any work
- Protection for lawns, beds, paving and nearby structures
- All branches chipped and all timber taken away – or logs left for your fire if you prefer
- The site raked and blown clean when we finish
- Optional stump grinding so you can replant, turf or pave over the area
Signs a tree may need removing
- A dead or rapidly thinning crown
- Fungal brackets or mushrooms around the base or on the trunk
- Deep cracks, splits or cavities in the main stem
- A new lean, or soil heaving at the base after high winds
- Ash trees showing signs of ash dieback
- Roots damaging walls, paths or drains (we recommend a surveyor’s opinion where buildings are involved)
Not every problem tree needs to be felled. Often a crown reduction or the removal of a single limb will make it safe, and we will always tell you if that is the better option.
Is my tree protected?
Some trees are protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), and trees in conservation areas need six weeks’ notice to the council before most work. Much of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames – including parts of Hampton, Twickenham and Teddington – falls within conservation areas. We check every tree before work begins and can help you with the application or notice if one is needed.
What affects the price?
- The size, species and condition of the tree
- Access – a side gate, through the house, or over a wall
- What is underneath: roofs, glasshouses, fences, cables
- Whether the tree can be felled or has to be dismantled
- How much waste there is to remove
- Whether you want the stump ground out
Send us a few photos on WhatsApp and we can usually give you a guide price the same day, followed by a firm quote after a visit.

Tree Removal – frequently asked questions
How much does tree removal cost?
It depends on the size of the tree, the access and what is around it. A small garden tree may take a couple of hours, while a large tree over a building can take a full day for a team. We give free, fixed written quotes – send photos on WhatsApp to 07810 540893 for a guide price.
Do I need permission to cut down a tree in my garden?
Usually not, unless the tree has a Tree Preservation Order or is in a conservation area. For a TPO tree you must apply to the council for consent; in a conservation area you must give the council six weeks’ notice for trees with a trunk over 7.5cm in diameter. We check this for you before any work starts.
Will you take all the wood and branches away?
Yes. Branches are chipped on site and all timber is removed, unless you would like to keep logs. We leave the garden clean and tidy.
Can you remove a tree if there is no rear access?
Yes. We carry everything out through a side passage or through the house with floor protection, and use ropes and rigging to lower sections where there is no room to fell.
How long does it take to remove a tree?
Most garden trees are removed in a single day, including clear-up. Very large trees or difficult access can take longer, and we will tell you in advance.
